Choosing the Right Jar Lids and Thread Size

how to measure jar lids

A custom jar is incomplete without an aesthetic lid that enhances the visual appeal of the container. But how do you ensure that the lid and jar are compatible? The secret lies in the thread on the neck of the jar.

In this guide, Gidea PAC will discuss cosmetic thread sizes and dimensions to help you find the perfect fit for your customized jars.

What Is a Thread Size?

Every jar consists of a main body, a neck, and a lid. The neck is where the lid attaches, and in the cosmetic industry, this neck is known as the jar thread.

Different  jars have varying neck sizes, referred to as the jar thread size.

What Are Jar Dimensions?

The dimensions of a cosmetic jar include measurements from different angles, such as the length, width, and diameter of the jars and lids. These dimensions dictate how much product the jar can hold.

Additionally, the thread of the cosmetic jar is classified into different dimensions:

Neck Dimensions
Dimension Description
T Dimension The diameter of the outermost threads on both sides of the neck.
E Dimension The diameter from the uppermost part of the neck.
S Dimension The distance between the uppermost part of the neck and the first thread.
I Dimension The diameter of the neck measured from its inner surface.
H Dimension The total length of the neck.

How to understand neck size?

The neck size is determined by two values separated by a “-” or “/”. The first is a 2-digit number indicating the outer diameter of the thread, and the second is a 3-digit number representing the thread type.

For example, in the size “20-400”, “20” indicates the diameter of the jar’s mouth, and “400” specifies the thread style.
